Kaohsiung:After guiding India to the next round of Asia-Oceania group in the Davis Cup, young Somdev Devverman said the losses in his previous three outings in the team tennis competition made him more determined to win matches for his country.
Somdev, who made his debut at home against Uzbekistan last year, won both his singles matches to architect India's 3-2 victory over Chinese Taipei in the second round of the event here.
"I was determined to win my matches in this tie after the loss in Romania. This is one of the most special days of my life, winning for India is something I have dreamt off all my life," he said after beating Lu Yen-Hsun in the first reverse singles, that ensured India's entry to the next round. "I executed my gameplan really well today and never gave Lu a look into the match," he added.
Before the tie against Chinese Taipei, Somdev made three appearances for India in Davis Cup - first against Uzbekistan and then against Romania in the World Group play-off, but on all three occasion he ended up in the losing side.
