Doha:Nikolay Davydenko and Ivan Ljubicic advanced on Tuesday to the second round of the Qatar Open. Davydenko, top seed and world No 3, beat South Korea's Lee Hyun-taik 7-5, 6-4. "I am not thinking about the world number one ranking as yet because this is my first match of the season," the Russian said afterward. Ljubicic, seeded second, had an easier time with a 6-1, 6-2 win over qualifier Denis Gremelmayr of Germany in just 58 minutes with powerful serving and baseline play. "It was a good win," Ljubicic said. "I am happy with my performance especially as I have recovered from last season's illness." Ljubicic had a viral attack in November, forcing him to pull out of the Paris Masters. "Hopefully I can keep up this form through the season," Ljubicic said. Morocco's Younes El Aynaoui, given a wild card here, was a surprise winner over former Australian Open champion Thomas Johansson of Sweden. Johansson, the fifth seed, lost 7-6 (5), 7-6 (1) to an opponent returning from injury and ranked 189th in the world. Two other seeds also lost. Belgium's Olivier Rochus defeated seventh-seed Sebastien Grosjean of France 6-4, 6-4, and Max Mirnyi of Belarus beat Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka, seeded eighth, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. In other games, Federico Luzzi of Italy beat Jurgen Melzer of Austria 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 and Sweden's Jonas Bjorkman ousted Nicolas Almagro of Spain 7-5, 7-5.
