Pune then won the second match as Marcos Baghdatis and Agnieszka Radwanska outplayed Feliciano Lopez and Venus Williams 6-3 in the mixed doubles.
Radwanska beat Venus 6-3 in the women's singles and more or less writing was clear on the wall.
Ramkumar Ramanathan and Lopez then saved the visitors blushing by winning the men's doubles 6-5.
