Tokyo: Mark Philippoussis has suffered a first-round loss for the fifth successive tournament, falling to Tomas Zib of the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-4 at the AIG Japan Open. Defeat means that Philippoussis, who has been hampered by injuries all season, is without a win since the fourth round at Wimbledon. There was better luck for fellow Australian Wayne Arthurs, however. Arthurs saw off Frenchman Jean-Rene Lisnard 6-4, 7-4, while there was a maiden victory in an ATP Tour event for Chinese Taipei's Yeu-Tzuoo Wang over American Jeff Morrison. (AP)
