Rome:
Paradorn Srichaphan became the latest in a long line of seeded players to get knocked out of the ATP Italia Masters in Rome after he was beaten 6-2, 6-2 by unseeded Marat Safin on Thursday. Unseeded Safin made the perfect start to the match with a break of Srichaphan's serve in the first game and claimed another break in the fourth before taking the first set 6-2. Safin looked at ease on Foro Italico's clay courts, while Thailand's Srichaphan struggled to get to grips with the slow surface. The second set was just as one sided as the first with Safin profiting on the back of his powerful groundstrokes. The Russian went on to complete a 6-2, 6-2 victory and will face Chilean clay court specialist Nicolas Massu in the third round on Friday. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
