Metz, France: World number eight Jo-Wilfried Tsonga marked his first singles match in almost three months with victory at the Metz Open on Wednesday.

Tsonga, 27, hadn't played since retiring from the second round at Wimbledon with a left knee injury which also ruled him out of the US Open.

But he shrugged off any rustiness with a 6-3, 6-4 win over fellow Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin to make the Metz quarter-finals.

Tsonga will next face Germany's Tobias Kamke, who rallied past Hungarian qualifier Marton Fucsovics 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and 38 minutes.
