Casablanca: Seventh-seeded Daniele Bracciali of Italy upset top-seeded Nicolas Massu of Chile 6-1, 6-4 to win the Grand Prix Hassan II tournament Sunday and his first ATP singles title. "This win gives me a lot of confidence for the future. This doesn't happen to me every day,'' said Bracciali, who won a doubles title last year in Milan. "I was serving very well and this helped me a lot. I expected a tough match and I'm happy that I got through and won my first title.'' The 28-year-old Bracciali, who is ranked 68th by the ATP, beat three seeded players for the clay-court title. He saved a match point in his quarterfinal win over No. 2 Luis Horna of Peru, and beat No. 8 Gilles Simon in the semifinals when the Frenchman retired with leg pain. For Massu, who was facing Bracciali for the first time, it was his second loss in a tournament final this season. "My opponent was just better than me,'' said 37th-ranked Massu, who also lost in the final at Vina del Mar, Chile. "I wasn't in great shape. Bracciali was serving very well and he didn't give me the chance to come back.'' The loss dropped the 26-year-old Massu to 21-10 this year and kept him from claiming his seventh ATP title. (AP)
