Hyderabad:
One of the biggest names in tennis history, Martina Navratilova, will be seen in action in India this week. Martina, who will play doubles at the Hyderabad WTA Open, has promised her fans and admirers that she is playing to win. A tier four tournament like the Hyderabad Open could not have asked for a better name than 48-year-old Martina to move into the league of prestigious tournaments. "I am glad I can contribute, not just this week, but get more people to come here so that I can come again next year,'' the tennis legend said. No mercy Martina's competitors at the Hyderabad Open should expect no mercy since she has made it clear that she is here to win. "I am very serious about the tournament. It is key to be a very good player, to be a champion, to be number one. You have to take every match seriously,'' she said. Hyderabad fans are, however, disappointed at Martina not doing a jugalbandi with Indian star Sania Mirza. Having won several doubles titles with Leander Paes, tennis lovers hoped Martina would have the local girl as her partner. Sania would now play alongside Shikha Oberoi. "I think we play great doubles together. Sania has good volleys, solid ground strokes, especially her forehand. She whacks the living daylights out of the ball. I have a pretty good serve and I like to come in a lot,'' said Shikha. Martina always wanted to visit the Taj Mahal, but after the hysteria her visit has evoked in Hyderabad, the tennis legend has decided that the date with Agra will have to wait till she hangs up her tennis shoes.Topics mentioned in this article
