New Delhi: India began their campaign in the Asia Oceania qualifying rounds of the Federation Cup today with a match against Singapore. Ankita Bhambri was first up and had no trouble winning in straight sets to give India a 1-0 lead after the first singles. Ankita had problems with her serve and with errant returns, but had no trouble against her opponent from Singapore, who are probably the weakest team in the event along with Kazakhstan. Wei Ping Lee fought harder in the second set before going down 6-1, 7-5, though Ankita will certainly have to lift her game if she hopes to play the singles against China on Friday.
