Key Biscayne:
Three-time champion Venus Williams has withdrawn from the Nasdaq-100 Open, citing a ligament sprain in her right elbow. Her sister Serena had withdrawn last week, saying she was not match-fit. Venus' opening match was to be played on Saturday. She has played only once this year, losing in the first round in the Australian Open in January. Her departure leaves seven of the world's top 10 women in the draw. "It has always been a thrill to play near my home," Williams said in a statement, "and I deeply regret that I will not have the opportunity to compete at the Nasdaq-100 Open this year". She said her rehabilitation was in progress, and she looked forward to returning to the competition soon. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
