Paris:Germany's Nicolas Kiefer, seeded No. 13, bowed out of the French Open on Friday, stopping after the first set of his third-round match against No. 20 Tomas Berdych because of a left wrist injury. Berdych, who next plays No. 1 Roger Federer, won the opening set 6-1. Kiefer said he hurt his wrist when he fell during his five-set victory over French wild card Marc Gicquel in the second round on Wednesday. The wrist began to swell soon after that match and prevented Kiefer from practicing on Thursday. ''It's disappointing because I'm playing great tennis now on clay,'' Kiefer said. ''I was really motivated after my last match.'' (AP)
