At the on-going 35th Junior National Aquatic Championship 2008 being held at Guru Nanak Devji University swimming pools in Amritsar, Jaywant Vijayakumar of Tamil Nadu has won three gold medals and one silver medal, bagging the most number of medals in the Group II swimming events this year.

In the Group II event of 100m freestyle swimming race, Jaywant clocked 57.66 seconds to win the gold, beating Maharashtra's Saurav Sanghvekar (silver) and Rishab Pawar of Delhi (bronze).

In the 50m freestyle in the same group, Jaywant clocked 26.36 seconds to win the gold.

Similarly in the 200m freestyle, Jaywant won his third gold medal by clocking 2.06.12, beating Maharashtra's Saurav Sangvekar to silver and Karnataka's Prajjal KS to a bronze.

Jaywant on Tuesday kept his winning spree at the championship by winning a silver for his home team of Tamil Nadu in 4x100 freestyle relay.

Jaywant, 14 years, is being coached by Girish of Tamil Nadu. His personal coach opines that Jaywant is a hot prospect for the Junior Commonwealth games, if he wins a place in the Indian swimming team.

Earlier, he had won two individual championships in the CBSE nationals and has also set a record in the 100m freestyle in 2007 national school games championship.
