London:
The Williams Formula One outfit turned back the clock to establish an all-British team next season, when they hope to have driver Jenson Button leading their charge. The team has announced an engine deal for 2006 with Cosworth who powered Williams to four world championships in the 1980s. Formula One's engine rules change at the end of this season to replace V10 units with V8s, rekindling memories of a past era when Cosworth dominated. Williams chief Sir Frank Williams believes Cosworth's pedigree with V8 engines stands his team in good stead for 2006. The announcement of a Cosworth deal had been expected for some weeks. Cosworth chief executive Tim Routsis believes the announcement of the link-up with Williams can pave the way for Cosworth to extend a long line of world title-winning engines. Cosworth have spent this year developing their V8 engine but were left facing the prospect of abandoning the project earlier in the season. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
