Els, Westwood, Harrington through to semis
Defending champion Ernie Els stayed on course for a record sixth World Match Play title with victory in the quarterfinals at Wentworth.

Defending champion Ernie Els stayed on course for a record sixth World Match Play title with victory in the quarterfinals at Wentworth in southern England on Friday. Els beat Argentina's Angel Cabrera 1 up on the 36th hole, to join Lee Westwood and Padraig Harrington in Saturday's semi-finals. Westwood beat South Africa's Retief Goosen 2 and 1, whilst an injured Harrington held off Frenchman Thomas Levet to win 1 up. The final match between Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez and Ryder Cup captain Bernhard Langer will be completed early on Saturday, with Jimenez 3 up after 28 holes. Langer had caused the upset of the first round, earlier, when he beat world number one Vijay Singh on the 37th hole. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
