Gullane, Scotland:
A five-time Open winner at Carnoustie, Turnberry, Royal Troon and Royal Birkdale as well as these famous Muirfield links, Watson is a lead contender to winning this title for the third time. He also won in 2003 and '05.
Now he has to catch an Australian who won a seniors major on the US Champions Tour five years ago. Watson also has to stay ahead of former British Open champion Mark O'Meara, who is on his first season as a senior. O'Meara is third after a 70 put him three strokes off the lead at even-par 213.
Ginn carded a 2-under 69 to take a one-stroke lead at 3 under. The Australian with the gray beard and thick brown curly hair bogeyed the first two holes but didn't drop a shot afterward in tricky windy conditions.
Ginn, whose accurate approach play to the greens gave him birdie chances on most holes between the third and the 17th, is the only player to post a sub-70 round in two days while Watson has posted 70-71-70.
