Zagreb, Croatia:
The IAAF Grand Prix season moved on to Zagreb in Croatia on Monday and it was an evening dominated by athletes from the United States. They won three of the four sprint races, both sprint hurdles, as well as the 400 metres for women and the 400 metres hurdles for men. They did not have things all their own way, though, as the men's 200 metres went to Ghana and the women's High Jump to South Africa. Eric Thomas and fellow-American Joey Woody finished first and second in the men's 400 metres hurdles, Thomas clocking a time of 48.27 seconds with Woody recording 48.59. The women's 400 flat went to LaTasha Colander-Richardson of the USA. She finished ahead of Natalya Antyukh of Russia and Sandie Richards of Jamaica. In the women's 100 metres, Kelli White of the United States edged out her compatriot Inger Miller to breast the tape first in 11 minutes 26 seconds. It was a similar story in the men's 100, as American Bernard Williams beat Abdul Aziz Zakari of Ghana by four one-hundredths-of-a-second. And the theme of the evening continued in the sprint hurdles with Anjanette Kirkland of the USA winning the women's 100 metres hurdles in 12 minutes 82 seconds. But the Americans fared less well in the field, the highlight being South African Hestre Storbeck's victory in the High Jump. Zakari finally gained revenge for his defeat in the 100 metres with a storming finish in the 200. The next Grand Prix meeting will be in Stockholm, Sweden, on July 16.Topics mentioned in this article
