Tehran:
South Korea grabbed a 1-0 victory in Iran in football on Wednesday to move to the top of their Olympic qualifying group. Lee Chun-soo scored the only goal of a dull game in the 61st minute. The hosts didn't even manage a shot on target in the first half. Thousands of Korean fans flew in to Tehran for their country's Group A fixture against Iran on Wednesday. Olympic berths was at stake, but you wouldn't have thought such a high prize was on offer, judging by the lack of attacking activity. After an appalling first-half, Iranian goalkeeper Sayed Rahmati decided to inject some excitement, flapping horribly at Lee Chun-soo's cross and causing unnecessary alarm in his own defence. Just over an hour had gone when Cho Jae-in found Lee. The World cup stalwart finished in style to give the Koreans a deserved lead. Iran came close to equalizing eighteen minutes later but Eman Mobali's free-kick sailed narrowly over. An anaemic Iranian attack proved incapable of breaking down the visitor's defence, the Koreans comfortably holding on to win 1-nil. South Korea now move to the top of the Group A table with six points from two matches played. Iran drop to one win and one loss. China opened its Olympic qualification campaign with a 1-0 loss to South Korea. They host Malaysia in Wuhan on Saturday in the other Group A match this week. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
