London:
A freak equaliser by Morten Gamst Pedersen earned Norway a 2-2 draw against Australia in an international friendly football match at Craven Cottage in London on Tuesday. The Blackburn midfielder curled in a free kick from the right flank after 73 minutes to make it 2-2. Norway took the lead after 41 minutes with a close-range tap-in by striker Steffen Iversen but Australia levelled through Tim Cahill before half time. Josip Skoko put Australia 2-1 up with a low finish after a neat 58th-minute move, but Pedersen's effort denied them victory. The Socceroos, who had ten British-based players in their squad, created the better openings in the early part of the first half. But the Norwegians weathered the onslaught and struck a decisive blow five minutes before the interval. Magne Hoseth of FC Kobenhavn unleashed a shot which Australia and Middlesbrough goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer could only parry into the path of Valerenga striker Steffen Iversen, who just tapped in. Australia equalised when Marco Bresciano of Parma found Tim Cahill and the Everton midfielder beat Norway's Sunderland goalkeeper with some aplomb. Having trailed 1-0, Australia turned around the game when Josip Skoko of Genclerbirligi made it 2-1 on 58 minutes. A neat interchange of passes between Cahill, Lucas Neill of Blackburn Rovers and Viduka, ended with the Turkish-based player blasting the ball into the net. Morten Gamst Pedersen scored an unlikely equaliser on 73 minutes. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
