Miroslav Klose scored two late goals as Germany celebrated their 750th international match with a 3-0 victory over 10-man Cameroon in a friendly played on Wednesday. Germany coach Juergen Klinsmann was anxious to see how his new-look defence dealt with the pace and skill of Samuel Eto'o when the 2006 World Cup hosts took on Cameroon in their 750th international on Wednesday. Wearing new red jerseys, a colour supposedly symbolising the new aggression of the team under Klinsmann, Germany had a goal ruled out in the 24th minute. The referee made Michael Ballack re-take his free kick as he had not blown before the midfielder had blasted the ball into the net. Germany made the breakthrough in the 71st minute when a long ball up-field by goalkeeper Jens Lehmann was touched on by Ballack into the path of Kevin Kuranyi, who raced clear to open the scoring. Second-half substitute Miroslav Klose made it 2-0 when he converted a left-wing cross from Bernd Schneider seven minutes later. Cameroon, who hardly threatened Lehmann's goal in a one-sided game, had midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba sent off with nine minutes to go. With two minutes remaining, Klose added his second as poor defending allowed the striker to steal in and secure a 3-0 victory. The friendly international officially inaugurated Leipzig's renovated Central Stadium. Once a massive arena for 100,000 in communist East Germany, it has been scaled down to 44,200 seats and upgraded to meet World Cup standards. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
