David Beckham may no longer be England captain or even part of the English team for that matter but that hasn't dented his star appeal all over the world. The 31-year-old was on a surprise visit to Japan for a personal endorsement where despite his on-field problems, his fans still think of him as number one. The former England captain's image may have taken a beating in Europe, but he's still huge in Japan. "I am very, very thrilled and close to tears," a fan. "I saw him very close and he was so cool," said another fan. Of course, this isn't Beckham's first trip to the orient. He made a huge impact in 2002 during the World Cup in Japan and South Korea. Then 12 months later after his controversial move to Real Madrid, he was the main attraction in the land of the rising Sun during his clubs pre-season exhibition tour. "I love the people because the people are always amazingly friendly to me and I have many fans here. I love the food and I just love being in Japan because it is an amazing country," said Beckham, Member, Real Madrid. Beckham's contract at Real Madrid ends in 18 months. The speculation is that the club will want to offload the last of their galacticos. With neither country nor club to play for, his future is highly uncertain and that is why for now, he definitely wants to enjoy his moment in the spotlight.Topics mentioned in this article
