Memphis: Defending champion Kenneth Carlsen of Denmark was eliminated by Robin Soderling of Sweden 7-6 (3), 6-4 in the second round of the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships. Soderling beat 2005 runner-up Max Mirnyi of Belarus in the first round. "I think I played a great match,'' Soderling said. "(Carlsen) was serving well, and I had some big problems with his first serve. I won more points from the baseline.'' Soderling will face Andy Murray of Britain in the quarterfinals. Murray defeated lucky loser Rik De Voest of South Africa 7-6 (4), 3-6, 7-5. "I'd seen him play a couple of times and he's a good player,'' Murray said of De Voest. It marks the second straight week Murray and Soderling will face each other in a quarterfinals. Murray defeated Soderling last week en route to winning in San Jose. 18-year-old Murray will become the highest ranked Brit in the new list on Monday, surpassing Tim Henman (No. 40) and Greg Rusedski (No. 43). Malisse eliminated French qualifier Julien Benneteau ousted eighth-seeded Xavier Malisse of Belgium 7-6 (4), 6-4 and will meet top-seeded Andy Roddick in the quarterfinals. Benneteau lost to Roddick in his only previous ATP event this year, at the Australian Open, in the third round. Sixth-seeded Tommy Haas, who won his first career title here in 1999 and his eighth and last in Delray Beach, Florida this month, defeated Vince Spadea of the United States 7-6 (1), 6-1. Next up for the German was Dmitry Tursunov of Russia, who defeated Cyril Saulnier of France 6-0, 6-7 (3), 6-3. Kristof Vliegen of Belgium, who reached the final eight in San Jose last week, defeated Paul Goldstein of the United States 6-1, 6-4. He will face first-time quarterfinalist Paul Capdeville, a qualifier from Chile. In women's matches, sixth-seeded Marta Domachowska of Poland defeated fourth-seeded Laura Granville of the United States 6-4, 6-4 to reach the semifinals, where she will face Jill Craybas. Craybas beat Lilia Osterloh 6-4, 6-1 in an all-American quarterfinal. Seventh-seeded Amy Frazier, the oldest player in the draw at 33, defeated 21-year-old Shenay Perry 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (3) in another all-American match. (AP)
