Hengelo:
Triple Olympic champion Marion Jones missed gold in women's 100 meters, as she was beaten into second place in the Dutch town of Hengelo. The 29-year-old American is shunned by Europe's leading promoters because of her association with the notorious BALCO laboratory drug scandal. Jones, who failed to win a medal at last year's Athens Olympics after winning three golds at the 2000 Sydney Games, finished well behind her former training partner Chandra Sturrup of the Bahamas. She clocked 11.29 seconds, 0.14 of a second behind Sturrup. Men's performance Jones' compatriot Allen Johnson, another former Olympic champion, triumphed in the men's 110 metres hurdles. But the highlight of the event would be the men's 10,000 metres, where Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele was looking to break his own world record. With a crowd of his countrymen supporting his efforts from the stands, Bekele looked to better the mark of 26 minutes, 20.31 seconds that he set in Ostrava, Czech Republic last year. His compatriot Abede Dinkessa took second place with Abderahim Goumri of Morocco finishing in third. (With AP inputs)Topics mentioned in this article
