New Delhi:
Following close on the heels of Formula 2 driver Narain Kathikeyan and Karun Chandhok, another boy from down South is setting the racing tracks on fire. A karting teen sensation, Armaan Ebrahim started 2004 by becoming the first Indian to participate in the World Junior Rotax Finals in January. He even ended the year on a high note by winning the JK Tyre National Racing Champion title. Too young to drive? The youngest-ever champion also won himself a luxury car recently. The only problem is that he will have to wait for at least three years before he turns 18 and gets a drivers license for himself. Till then he cannot sit behind the wheels of his prized possession. "I think I have done pretty well but I can't say that I've done superbly. Last year, I was in top-5 in Malaysian karting. So hopefully I would continue the good work," said Ebrahim. Genetic advantage Fifteen-year-old Armaan is the son of a former national rally champion Akbar, and racing is clearly in his genes. He is also looking forward to making the transition to the big league very soon, even though his dad warns that it won't be an easy ride. "Motorsports is very tough, not just physically but mentally as well. You have to handle everything calmly. Your life has to be just motorsport. You just can't think of anything else. You have to give up everything, lose your youth, your friends, everything," said Akbar. Future star Meanwhile the 'fastest Indian in the world', Karthikeyan, is all praise for the racing prodigy and so is Chandhok, whose record Armaan broke by winning the national title at such a young age. "He is doing a good job, internationally as well in the national championship. So he is certainly a star for the future," said Karthikeyan. Armaan is also lucky to have got himself some sponsors so early in his career, which of course, is an all-important factor in the expensive sport of motor racing. Less than two years after he learnt his first racing lesson, Armaan Ebrahim is being hailed as the future of Indian motorsports. While the journey to the chequered flag is tough, very tough, Armaan is all geared up for the action.Topics mentioned in this article
