Buenos Aires:
Ignacio Scocco headed in two second-half goals and Newell's Old Boys beat Union Espanola of Chile 2-0 for the Argentine squad's first victory in the Copa Libertadores on Tuesday. Scocco's goals in the 49th and 65th minutes handed the Chilean side its second loss in as many games. Goias of Brazil has three points and leads Group 3 on goal difference, but Newell's victory moved it into second, ahead of The Strongest of Bolivia on goals scored. Union had fewer scoring chances but nearly tied the game when Hector Tapia put a shot off the crossbar. Ariel Ortega, marked out of most of the game, managed to get free for a cross that Scocco converted for his second header. The Chilean squad next play host to The Strongest on February 28, while Newell's travels to Brazil on March 15 to play Goias. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
