Deccan Chargers faced off against hosts Delhi Daredevils at the Feroze Shah Kotla stadium on Tuesday. Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and decided to bat first.
Irfan Pathan struck in his first over when he removed Shikhar Dhawan from the crease to give Delhi a perfect start.
Sunny Sohal was in good touch and it was clear from the beginning as he played some good shots to set the match back on level terms.
His skipper walked in to replace Dhawan and gave Sohal company at the crease with his trademark class. Sangakkara's knock of 49 had eight boundaries and a six.
Once the duo departed however, it was Cameroon White who took over the mantle of striking big as he scored 31 off 25 balls to take his team to 168 in their alloted number of overs.
The Daredevils began their chase on a ferocious note as David Warner and Virender Sehwag flew off the grid with a barrage of shots, both grounded as well as aerial.
Sehwag though could not go beyond his personal score of 12 as Harmeet Singh removed him courtesy a brilliant catch by Daniel Christian.
A few wickets later, Venugopal Rao came to the crease, played a few splendid shots to score 21 off 23 but fell to Amit Mishra to set the match alive again.
He was followed to the dug-out by Warner who found the fielder at the boundary off the bowling of Shikhar Dhawan.
And though Yogesh Nagar hit a few massive shots into the stands, it proved to be inadequate as Chargers won the match with 16 runs still left to get.
