For the first time this season Dharamsala played host to an IPL match, as Kings XI Punjab beat Delhi Dardevils by 7 runs on Thursday. The result means that Kings XI keep their slim playoff hopes alive with one game to play.
David Miller played a starring role for Punjab with the bat, scoring a 24-ball 44 as Kings XI posted 171/4. "David Miller is an outstanding cricketer," said Punjab skipper Adam Gilchrist at the post-match presentation ceremony. "I am sure he is a household name in South Africa and now he has the world's attention as well."
Gilchrist also hasn't given up hope on Punjab securing a playoff berth. "We still have a slight chance if things go our way in the other games. But, it was great to get a victory at this beautiful venue," he added. "There is not better place to play cricket than Dharamsala."
Miller struck 3 sixes in his knock, one of which went out of the ground and one that went on the roof of the stadium. "I enjoyed the one that went out of the ground more," said Man of the Match Miller. "I enjoy hitting the ball straight and on this small ground even mishits can go out of the park."
Kings XI pacer Sandeep Sharma has been impressive in the IPL so far, and produced excellent figures of 3/23 as Punjab restricted Delhi.
"The wicket here at Dharamsala is favourable for fast bowlers and I enjoyed bowling on this track", said Sharma after the match. "I knew that if I bowled in the right areas I would be successful. The team played well and now I am confident that we will make the playoff stages."
