The family of Kerala pacer S Sreesanth, who has been arrested on allegations of spot-fixing, has said his son is innocent and has alleged a conspiracy to end his cricket career
Shanthakumaran Nair has been quoted in media reports as alleging that some of Sreesanth's teammates did not want him to be a part of the Indian team and so had conspired against him.
Sreesanth is not new to controversy. In recent weeks he reopened the controversial "slapgate" episode of 2008 that featured a skirmish between him and spinner Harbhajan after an IPL match and had called Harbhajan "a backstabber," in a series of emotional tweets. He later deleted those tweets.
In an interview earlier this week to Bombay Times, Sreesanth was again quoted as saying: "I felt like telling everyone what had happened that evening. So, I decided to give a blow-by-blow account. It's fine, as I did not hide or cook up any story. My tweets just revealed reality, and nothing else. Now, I feel light. I wasn't bothered about the reactions. Let them [the IPL officials] show the video. Come on, who can know better than me. I am firm on what I said."
