Brendon McCullum and Kane Williamson saw New Zealand through the first session on Day 4 as they survived till lunch without losing a wicket.
Umesh Yadav however struck a telling blow when he got rid of Brendon McCullum and that halted a blooming partnership.
Skipper Ross Taylor failed to lead by example as he was stumped off the bowling of Ravichandran Ashwin.
But the New Zealand batsmen were no match for the Indian spinners as Pragyan Ojha and Ravichandran Ashwin shared nine of the ten wickets. Ashwin got the lion's share picking up six in the innings and twelve in the match.
Ultimately the Kiwis folded up for 164 in their second innings to hand India a victory by an innings and 115 runs. Team India shall have their tails up going into the next match at Bangalore while the tourists have a lot to think about.
