New Delhi:  Ravichandran Ashwin has a penchant for being in the record books for India. And that too pretty quickly.

On Friday, when he took the first England wicket to send back opener Nick Compton, Ashwin picked up his 50th Test wicket -- the fastest Indian to do so in just nine matches.

Ashwin's tryst with records started with his debut itself. Playing his first Test against the West Indies in November 2011, his nine wickets from the game had got him Man-of-the-Match award -- only the fourth Indian to do so on debut.

Ashwin is also only the third Indian to bag five wickets and score a century in the same Test.

Legendary English fast bowler Sydney Barnes and Sri Lankan off-spinner Mutiah Muralitharan hold the record for the 50 wickets in Test cricket. Both reached he milestone in just five Test matches.
