India's last encounter with the Sri Lankan team was on March 13 in Mirpur as part of the Asia Cup. MS Dhoni and his side claimed the match by 50 runs. Here is a recap of the tie...
India lost the toss and lost Sachin Tendulkar (6) early. It was the other opener in Gautam Gambhir though who was in ripe form.
Virat Kohli, who had replaced Tendulkar, in the middle smashed 108 to build a solid 205-run partnership with Gambhir.
Chasing 306 for a win, Sri Lanka lost Tillakaratne Dilshan (7) early. Jayawardene though, stuck himself in the middle.
Jayawardene was partnered by Kumar Sangakkara and the two played some exquisite shots to take the challenge to the Indian bowlers.
Once the two departed however, a relentless Vinay Kumar struck terror to shatter the Sri Lankan batting card. The match was wrapped up in 45.1 overs.
