Paris: Under-fire chairman of selectors Krishnamachari Srikkanth said that India must accept the fact that England are currently the better team and refused to comment on team selection which has been under much scrutiny after India's disastrous performance in England.
"Very honestly, we must gracefully accept the fact that England is playing better cricket than India. They have got one of the best bowling attacks especially in English conditions", Srikkanth said in an exclusive interview to NDTV.
India's poor show has been widely credited to the flaws in team selection which has been at the mercy of an extensively busy schedule. Srikkanth however, was not ready to comment on the flaws in choosing the side. "Nothing clicked for us, it is a combination of everything and it is the effect of injuries also. It is a crisis situation for Team India, where everything went wrong", said Srikkanth.
India had gone ahead with an injured Virender Sehwag for the Test matches against England but their problems got adverse when pace spearhead Zaheer Khan injured his hamstring.
On being asked about the future plan of the selection panel on how it would replace the seniors after they eventually retire, Srikkanth put up a brave face saying that he has faith in his resources. "You cannot replace a guy like Viru straight away. But there are guys who have done well in the past. We have won matches in the past even in the absence of these players", said Srikkanth.
"When everything is going fine, we all appreciate the bench strength but when suddenly things start to go wrong, we complain. When things are not going well, we should just accept it. Constructive criticism is fine but criticism for just the sake of criticism is a waste of time", added Srikkanth.
India have put up a rather embarrassing show in England which has led to 3 consecutive losses. The last Test at Oval will only be a matter of pride for Team India who will look to resurrect their reputation in world cricket.
