New Delhi: Statistical highlights of the 1st day of the second Test match between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

# Sydney Cricket Ground (100 between 1882 and 2011-12) became the third venue to host 100 or more Tests - the first two being Lord's (123 between 1884 and 2011) and Melbourne (104 between 1877 and 2011).

# Sachin Tendulkar is the top run-scorer for India in the ongoing series - 146 at an average of 48.66 in three innings, including a fifty.

# Sachin's runs' tally of 3297 at an average of 59.94 in 33 Tests is the second highest against Australia in Tests, next only to England's Jack Hobbs - 3636 at an average of 54.26 in 41 Tests.

# Sachin, during the course of his 41 off 89 balls, has overtaken England's David Gower's aggregate of 3269 at an average of 44.78 in 42 Tests.

# Amongst the top six batsmen in terms of run-aggregate in Tests against Australia, Sachin's average is the highest - the next best is 54.26 by Jack Hobbs.

# Sachin took his run-aggregate at SCG to 705 in five Tests at an average of 176.25, including three hundreds.  Only England's Wally Hammond had managed more runs than Sachin against Australia at SCG - 808 runs at an average of 161.60 in five Tests, including four hundreds.

# Gautam Gambhir has recorded his fifth duck in Tests - his second against Australia.

# Gambhir's last six innings against Australia are 36, 25 & 0 in India between 2008 and 2010 and 3, 13 & 0 in the present series.

# Gambhir is averaging 5.33 in Australia - 16 in three innings.

# VVS Laxman's 2 is his lowest score at SCG, eclipsing the 7 in January 2000.

# Laxman's batting average at SCG is now 80.50 - 483 in six innings, including three hundreds.

# In his last five Test innings, Laxman has recorded 32 & 31 against the West Indies at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai in November last year followed by 2, 1 & 2 in the present series.

# Rahul Dravid's average of 34.62 at SCG is not upto the mark - 277 runs in five Tests (nine innings), including two fifties and two ducks.

# James Pattinson (10 wickets at 15.10 runs apiece), and Ben Hilfenhaus (10 at 16.50) are the top wicket-takers for Australia in the present series.

# Pattinson's figures of 4 for 43 are his best against India, bettering the 4 for 53 at Melbourne last week.

# In his first four Tests, Pattinson has bagged four wickets or more in an innings four times.  His tally includes two instances of five wickets in an innings.

# Pattinson's tally of 24 wickets at 14.45 runs apiece in four Tests is quite impressive.  His strike rate of 28.2 is equally impressive.  

# Virender Sehwag (30) is averaging 46.40 at SCG - 232 runs in five innings, including two innings of 70-plus.

# Sachin has recorded seven successive innings of 30 or more against Australia - 98 & 38 at Mohali and 214 & 53 not out at Bangalore in October 2010, 73 & 32 at MCG and 41 at Sydney.

# Virat Kohli (23) has recorded his highest innings against Australia, eclipsing the 11 at Melbourne.

# Kohli is averaging 13.75 away from home - 110 in eight innings, including two ducks.

# Mahendra Singh Dhoni (57 not out) has posted his highest score in eleven innings in Australia, eclipsing the 38 at Perth in January 2008.

# Dhoni is averaging 22.70 in Australia - 227 runs in six Tests at a strike rate of 44.95, including one fifty.

# Dhoni's fifth fifty against Australia is his 24th in Tests.

# Dhoni's unbeaten 57 is the third highest by a captain-cum-wicketkeeper against Australia in Australia, next only to the 63 not out by England's Alec Stewart at Adelaide in December 1998 and 60 by South Africa's Percy Sherwell at Sydney in December 1910.

# Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin have shared a stand of 54 for the seventh wicket - the highest partnership in India's innings on the opening day of the Sydney Test.

# The aforesaid partnership is India's third highest for the seventh wicket at SCG - the highest is 81 between Karsan Ghavri and Syed Kirmani in January 1978.

# Zaheer Khan has recorded his fourth duck in his last ten innings.

# Zaheer's 23rd duck in Tests is his 5th against Australia.  He has equalled the Indian record for ducks in Tests held by Bhagwat Chandrasekhar.

# Ishant Sharma's 13th duck in Tests is his third against Australia.

# Ishant has recorded ten ducks away from home - his second successive duck at SCG.

# Umesh Yadav has posted his second duck in Tests - his first was against West Indies at Feroz Shah Kotla, New Delhi.

# India (191) have recorded their third lowest completed innings total at SCG - the two lowest being 150 in January 2000 and 188 in December 1947.

# India have recorded their fourth lowest total away from home during the last two years - the three lowest being 136 against South Africa at Centurion in December 2010, 158 against England at Nottingham in July 2011 and 169 at MCG last week.

# The last instance when India recorded two successive totals of less than 200 in Australia was at MCG in December 2007 - 196 & 161.

# Peter Siddle has completed his 100 Test wickets at an average of 30.41 in 29 Tests.  He is the 34th Australian bowler to achieve the feat in Tests.

# Shaun Marsh has recorded his third duck in his last four innings - his sequence of scores being  0 against South Africa followed by 0, 3 and 0 against India.

# For the sixth Test in succession away from home, India have not crossed 300 in eleven innings.

# Zaheer has captured the first three Australian wickets to fall for the first time.

# Ed Cowan has taken six catches - the most by a fielder in the present series.

# Four ducks or more have been recorded in the same innings for India against Australia eight times - the second instance at SCG - the first being in January 2008 (Wasim Jaffer,  Yuvraj Singh, RP Singh and Ishant Sharma in India's second innings).

# Ricky Ponting is the top run-getter in the present series - 166 (ave.83.00), including two fifties.

# Zaheer, for the first time in a Test series in Australia, has bagged ten wickets (ave.15.60).  His tally is the highest by an Indian bowler in the present series.
