Hockey World League: Australia crush India, face Netherlands in semis
Hosts India suffered a comprehensive 2-7 defeat against world champions Australia while England overcome Belgium, Netherlands beat Germany and New Zealand edge past Argentina to enter the semis of the hockey World League.
Hosts India began their quarterfinal tie against Australia on a positive note, as they took an unexpected two goal lead early in the first half.
Australia, the world champions, however, remained calm and composed and clawed their way back into the game. From 0-2 down, they went into half-time with a slender lead of 3-2 over India.
Australia dominated the second half, scoring four goals to finish with a resounding 7-2 win to advance to the semis. They now face Netherlands in the semis.
Netherlands beat Olympic champions Germany 1-0 to advance to the semifinals.
England overcame the Belgian challenge to win 2-1 and set up a semifinal date with New Zealand, who edged out Argentina in sudden death.
