New Delhi:Here are some reactions from officials, politicians and public to India's defeat in the Olympic qualifiers:
"I will respond to these things at a later stage. We do not have an instant coffee machine that you can get results instantly. It takes time to regain your position. We have put the process in place and the results will take some time." - KPS Gill
Narendra Batra, Vice President of the IHF who resigned after the defeat told NDTV, the people at the top were killing the game. He also called India's sports ministry a fraud ministry.
"We played to just 50 per cent of our potential today. It was like we losing the match rather than Britain winning." - Joaquim Carvalho, Hockey Coach.
"Everyone is quitting except the chief of the federation KPS Gill who has not accepted that he has been unable to handle the sport and that the game has fared miserably under him. A few days ago Gill made a statement saying that it was the team which had lost and not him and that there was no reason to leave hockey." - Jalaluddin, former Olympian.
"KPS Gill has harmed the interest of Indian hockey." MAA Fatmi, HRD Minister (MoS)
"Its matter of shame for the entire country. The government must recast the sports policy and give equal encouragement to all sports and also more funds." - D Raja
"There should be a debate inside the Parliament on govt's sports policy. I will move the proposal in this regard." - Manohar Joshi, Shiv Sena MP
"KPS Gill should be kicked out from hockey federation." - Gurudas Dasgupta
"We do not give hockey as much importance as we give to cricket. That is one big reason. Even the film Chak De helped cricket more than hockey."
"It's time we remove politicians from our all sports governing bodies."
"Gill is running hockey like a personal business. I am deeply hurt by the state of Indian hockey today. Gill and Kumaran should be fired."
"What is going on in Indian hockey? Playing for your country's pride is not a joke. Infrastructure should be created and importance should be given to hockey."
