Chennai:The Chak De effect certainly worked its wonders on Indian Hockey with India beating Japan in the semi-final of the Men's Asia Cup on Saturday.
Cheering India on in that match were a special audience - the players of the Indian Cricket League.
"I saw the first match, but then we wanted a break from cricket, so we came here to cheer up the hockey team," said Deep Dasgupta, former India player.
Another player Reetinder Singh Sodhi said, "I've been watching hockey since I was a kid. It's a very exciting game and players like Sandeep and Prabhjot are known to me."
Currently undergoing a fitness camp, the fitness of India's hockey players not only impressed but also inspired ICL's new recruits.
"Their fitness is fantastic, they are matching with Japan and Korea," said Dasgupta.
"India and England have an important game, but inspite of that, we had made a plan that we would go to cheer the Indian hockey team," said J P Yadav.
It speaks volume for the ongoing popularity of hockey that even cricketers came to see this semifinal on the same day as the Lord's one-dayer. One supposes that's what happens when a team starts to win.
