New Delhi:
With Australia pulling out of the Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan in December due to security reasons, India will replace the Aussies in the tournament. India's national hockey coach Gerhard Rach has said that Dhanraj Pillay is no longer needed in the team and that at 37 he should definitely retire. Dhanraj missed the recent India-Pakistan test series as he's playing league hockey in Malaysia. Rach may not be the most well-known hockey coach in the world but he's determined to make a success of his assignment with the Indian team. Remedial measures He thinks part of the remedial measures is taking tough decisions and one of which is not wanting players like Dhanraj Pillay and Prabhjot Singh back in the team. Rach also made it quite clear that selfish players in the team will not be tolerated and that he wants the team to play like a team. Since taking over as coach just before the Olympics, Rach doesn't have too much to show for himself. India finished a dismal seventh at Athens but the former German international believes that the 4-2 defeat to Pakistan in the eight match series was a more positive result than what the scoreline indicated.Topics mentioned in this article
