India will be playing for minor placings in the hockey world cup after the Boys in Blue lost in their fourth league match against S Korea.

India will be playing for minor placings in the hockey world cup after the Boys in Blue lost right at the death yet again in their fourth league match against South Korea. India conceded a goal with just over a minute left India has gone winless in 4 games in the world cup. After a cautious start by both teams it was India who created the first real chance in the tenth minute. Their best player of the tournament so far Shivendra Singh creating all sorts of trouble for the Korean defence but the finishing however didn't match the build-up. The Indians kept the pressure up creating a chance five minutes later. But poor skills most notably in trapping let them down time and again Twenty minutes in, a sweeping move from the left created their best move of the half. But the final flourish eluded the forwards once again Hariprasad's deflection going just wide. The Koreans finally seemed to wake up a couple of minutes later. But Viren Rasquinha kept the scoreline blank with this fine effort India had a chance to take the lead three minutes before the breather, but Raghunath's drag-flick was well saved by Korean custodian Ko. Ten minutes into the second half, it was first blood to India. A fantastic ball into the circle, and Shivendra Singh got his fourth goal of the tournament with a deft touch past the unsighted Ko. The on-field officials referred it to the third umpire who confirmed that the goal would indeed stand. Tempers flared when Korea were denied a legitimate claim for a penalty stroke after the ball came up onto the body of Prabodh Tirkey on the goal line from a penalty corner variation. But they weren't to be denied seven minutes from time Jong Hyun Jang dragging his flick past the onrushing Adrian D'Souza. The game being played at a frenetic pace, and with just a couple of minutes left, India had the chance to score the winner, but could create only a penalty corner. With just over a minute on the clock, Jang scored the winner to break Indian hearts once again. India then out of contention for a place in the Semi-Finals.Topics mentioned in this article
