IA, Karnataka to clash in Murugappa final

It is now a clash between tournament favourites Indian Airlines and Karnataka in the finals of the All India MCC Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey Tournament in Chennai. In the semi finals Karnataka overpowered ONGC 4 goals to 2. "This is the third final we are playing. I am very grateful to the boys who are working very hard," said A K Kevin, captain of the Karnataka team. The star attraction of the day though was the second semifinal between Indian Airlines and Indian Oil Corporation. Indian Airlines playing with a host of big names like former Indian captains Mohammed Riaz and Mukesh Kumar even had Dhanraj Pillai as a guest player on their side overpowered a young Indian Oil Corporation team 3 goals to 1. "For the finals we will focus on an attacking game. We have experienced players like Dhanraj Pillai and so we will concentrate on counter attacks," said Dilip Tirkey, captain, Indian Airlines. The finals now between Karnataka and Indian Airlines will be played on Saturday. And the though star studded Indian Airlines will be going in as the favourites Karnataka too with in form players like Ignatius Tirkey will be making a determined bid especially as the young side would want to impress the selectors who are keeping a close watch on the tournament.
