New Delhi:After a sensational performance in Europe, where they won the four nations Panasonic Cup in Germany, the victorious Indian hockey team returned home today morning. It's been a fantastic few months for team India. After a sensational performance in Australia where they defeated the Olympic Bronze medallists, India continued its form into the four-nation tournament. While, the team drew with world champions Germany, they defeated two highly ranked teams, Spain and Argentina. Two wins inside a month have definitely sent the confidence of the team sky high. "We seemed to have developed a winning trend, something we did not have for a very long time. The team combination is good and the results are there for all to see," said Deepak Thakur, member, Indian Hockey Team. Even though the team did not manage to beat World Champions Germany in their two encounters Coach Rajinder Singh was much impressed with the performance of the team. "We performed better than we did in Australia and played better than teams like Spain and Argentina, and matched up to Germany. It was a different kind of experience for the team, and the performance was very good," said the coach. "All the experiments that we tried with the short corner conversions and goal keeping clicked. Our forwards had to face a very different style of hockey, a European style and there was a definite improvement," said the coach. The team is expected to get the next few days off to recuperate from what has been probably the best period in a long time for Indian Hockey. But after that it will be back to basics with the Champions Trophy looming large in Holland in August.
