Kuala Lumpur:
Continuing their winning run under a new coach, India beat Poland 4-1 in their penultimate pool B match of the tenth World Cup Hockey here today. Daljit Singh Dhillon, captain Baljit Singh Dhillon, Prabhjot Singh and Dhanraj Pillay were the scorers for India as the team displayed much better skills than they had shown so far. Tomascz Choczaj scored the lone goal for Poland. The win was all the more heartening, as Poland had denied India a place in the semi-finals of the Sydney Olympics with a last minute equaliser in their final league match. India went all out right from the start, and led 3-1 at the breather. After Daljit opened the account in the sixth minute, his elder brother Baljit converted a penalty stroke with nonchalance to put India 2-0 up in the 15th minute. Poland reduced the deficit in the 23rd minute through Choczaj who made a brilliant diving deflection of a pass from the far left. It was, however, not long before Prabhjot made it 3-1 when he slotted in a deflection by Deepak Thakur from a free hit by Saini. India failed to improve their margin in the second half till Dhanraj Pillay completed the tally with just two minutes to go for the hooter. (PTI)Topics mentioned in this article
