Kuala Lumpur:
Moments of indiscretion proved costly for India as they went down 1-2 to South Korea in a Pool B match of the 10th Hockey World Cup here today. The Koreans twice capitalized on the untidiness in the Indian game to shock the former world champions. First in the 21st minute, Kanwalpreet Singh was guilty of dangerous play when it was absolutely unnecessary. It resulted in him receiving a Green card and also gave South Korea a penalty corner. Woon Kon Yeo made the most of the opportunity to give the Koreans the lead. The second goal came in the second half in similar moments when India showed a distinct lack of a sense of urgency while trying to find the equalizer. Instead of sharpening their midfield passes, they kept dilly-dallying. Striker Seung Tae Song took advantage and entered the penalty corner to slot home the goal, which sounded the death knell for the Indians. The one goal that Jugraj Singh converted came in the penultimate minute of the game when it was virtually all over for India. (PTI)Topics mentioned in this article
