Miami:The opening round of the WGC-CA Championships got under way on Thursday from Doral Golf Resort and Spa in Florida.
Henrik Stenson claimed the joint lead into the clubhouse after shooting a respectable 67 over his first 18 holes.
The Swede, who began from the 10th, making a strong finish to his opening round with this approach at the par-47th a highlight on route to a birdie to go to -4.
The 2007 WGC Accenture match play champion added another birdie at the next whole, the 9th, to go to 5 under par and take the outright lead into the clubhouse following a 1st round 67.
Stenson will begin day 2 tied atop the leader board with Robert Allenby of Australia, who despite dropping shots at the 6th and 13th, went on to record 5 birdies, including one at the 8th, to grab a share of an early 1 stroke lead at 5 under for the tournament.
The surprise package of the first day though was Thomas Bjorn, who began at the 10th with a birdie.
