Moscow:Shiv Kapur rode on a birdie-quartet in his back nine to card a flawless five-under 67 and grab a share of the sixth spot after the opening round of the Inteco Russian Open Golf Championship here.
However, the other Indian in fray, SSP Chowrasia did not have as good a day and turned in a roller-coaster two-under 70 to be tied for the 42nd spot after the opening round.
A 10th tee starter, Kapur made a sensational start as he sank in four back-to-back birdies from the 10th to 13th to be four-under at the turn.
His front nine was comparatively subdued and he picked up a birdie on the seventh before signing off the day just two strokes off the pace.
In contrast, Chowrasia's fortunes kept oscillating. He was off the blocks with a birdie-brace, before a bogey on the third hole pulled him back.
He made the turn two-under after gaining a shot on the seventh.
The Kolkata-pro's back nine started with a bogey on the 10th but he immediately made amends with a 12th-hole eagle.
However, Chowrasia could not round off the day higher up after stumbling to a bogey on the last hole.
At the top, there was a four-way tie for the lead between Swedes Joakim Backstorm and Fredrik Henge, Finland's Roope Kakko and Englishman David Carter after all of them carded 65s.
South African Darren Fichardt was a stroke behind at the sole fifth spot.
