Overnight leader Justin Rose remains two-shots clear of the field after the second round of the 68th Masters tournament at the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, USA on Friday (April 9). The 23-year-old Briton carded a one-under par round of 71 to move to six-under par, while two-times Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal and Alex Cejka share second place at four-under. Eighteen golfers finished their postponed first rounds at Augusta. Once the backlog had been cleared the second round commenced and Jose Maria Olazabal played himself into contention with a three-under par round of 69. The Spaniard, a Masters champion in 1994 and 1999, eagled the 13th to move to three-under par. Birdies then followed at the 14th and 15th holes, but Olazabal dropped a shot at the 18th and ended the day in joint second place at four-under. KJ Choi produced a stunning front nine, but his round faltered after the turn. Choi sunk an impressive six birdies between the second and ninth holes, although four bogeys on the back nine saw the Korean slip back to three-under par and into joint fourth place. Tiger Woods had struggled for form on day one, but picked up a shot while completing his first round on Friday morning. The world number one then carded a three-under par second round to move to even par and keep alive hopes of adding a fourth Masters title this year. Alex Cejka was a model of consistency, following his opening 70 with another two-under par round. The German had held sole possesion of second place at five-under, but dropped back into joint second with Olazabal after a bogey at the last. It was a good Friday for Phil Mickelson, who moved into contention with a three-under par second round. The American, who has yet to win a major title, picked up three birdies on the back nine to move to into joint fourth place with Choi on three-under. Overnight leader Justin Rose struggled to match his opening round of five-under par, but remains at the top of the leaderboard with a two-stroke lead. The Briton saved par at the 18th after an exquisite bunker shot and carded a one-under par round of 71 to move to six-under. Four-times masters champion Arnold Palmer was making an emotional 50th and final appearance at the Masters this year. The 74-year-old failed to make the cut after consecutive rounds of 84 left him at 24-over par. But Palmer's score mattered little and the support he received as he walked up the 18th fairway for the last time forced the golfing legend to fight back the tears.Topics mentioned in this article
