Vilamoura:
The Victoria Course at the Vilamoura Golf Club in Portugal was officially opened last week by Arnold Palmer. The seven-time major winner designed the course, which looks set to take its place among the finest in Europe. The world's best players will be converging on Vilamoura this September for the 2005 World Cup of Golf. To recognise the services Palmer has provided for golf in Portugal, he received a 'Command Portuguese Order of Merit' from the country's President Jorge Sampaio. The Victoria Course has been three years in the making and Palmer - involved in course design for over 30 years - is understandably delighted with the results. Championship Director Peter Adams says that the foundations are already in place to provide the perfect challenge for the world's finest players. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
