Kuala Lumpur:The rain and dark, grey skies finally cleared at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sunday as England's Mark Foster found his range to card a 63 that included seven birdies and an eagle. He finished on 16-under-par to share fourth place with compatriot John Bickerton who shot 66 in the final round of the rain-shortened Malaysian Open. However, Raphael Jacquelin of France outscored both on the day as he registered nine birdies in his round of 62, which equalled his best round on the European Tour. He finished on his own in third place on 17-under. Meanwhile, Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand failed in his bid to win the same event three times in a row as he carded a 66 on Sunday. He went out and came back in 33 to finish on 18-under-par but a missed birdie chance from 20 feet on the last hole cost him dearly as he failed to join the six players, including Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomerie and Tiger Woods, who have won a European tour event winners three years in succession. Instead, the honours went to Korean Charlie Wi. He launched his title charge with a birdie on the fourth, followed by a 30-foot eagle at the next hole and turned in 31 with birdies on the seventh and here at the ninth. He sailed into the lead with birdies on the 10th, here at the 13th and 16th before rolling in a five-foot putt at the last to clinch the win - his first on the European Tour. Wi became the second US Nationwide Tour player to win on the European Tour in successive weeks after American Kevin Stadler won the Johnnie Walker Classic in Perth, Australia last Sunday. He also became the second Korean to win on the tour after KJ Choi in the 2003 German Masters and he was in no doubt that this was the finest last round he had played. (AP)
