Gurgaon:
India defeated Bangladesh 3-0 to lift the fourth SAARC Golf Championship trophy at the Classic Golf Resort on Saturday. This was India's fourth championship victory in as many tournaments. Indian golfers adjusted themselves well in the final of the amateur championship, which was played in three 18-hole singles matches with scoring under matchplay format. Matches in the preliminary rounds were played under stroke-play format. Jasjeet Singh gave India a flying start with a victory over Mohammad Hussain Mia. Singh's win was comprehensive as it came on the 12th hole. Manav Das continuing with his fine form registered a two-hole victory over his Bangladeshi rival Mohammad Milon Ahmed to give India a 2-0 lead. Manav, however, had to struggle a little before wrapping up the game on the 17th hole. Top Indian amateur Keshav Mishra, who seemed to have lost focus for some time, managed to win a closely fought match against Mohammad Siddikur Rahman. Mishra started the game poorly losing the very first hole. However, he recovered in time and with the help of couple of birdies won on the 17th hole. "It was a good tournament for me so far. But I played miserably today and the putting was even worse," Mishra said after the match. "Somehow I carried on to win the match," he added. With the Asian Games this year, Mishra has the added option of going professional with the rules changed as far as status of players is concerned at the games. "The qualifying schools are in July, but I will be playing a couple of events in Japan and Malaysia in May. So I am definitely amateur till May. So I really don't know," he said.
