Florida:
Karrie Webb shot a 71 on Friday, one of only two rounds under par, to build a four-stroke lead at the LPGA Tour Championships at the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida. The 26-year-old Aussie was one of the few survivors on Friday, when whipping wind and tough pin positions combined to make a season-ending perk for the top 30 players look more like the punishing grind of a US Open. Annika Sorenstam, who hit only one fairway through her first eight holes, made her lone birdie on the 18th hole for a 74 and was at 142, along with Wendy Doolan. The second round of the LPGA Tour Championships was played in windy conditions. Cristie Kerr was 5-under par for the day and two shots out of the lead with only three holes to play. She made a bogey on number 16, then hit two balls in the water on the par-3 17th for a quadruple bogey and finished seven strokes back. Scotland's Janice Moodie shot a 75 on Friday and is at 145 through two rounds. Laura Davies and Karrie Webb were the only players to break par on Friday, when the course played to an average score of 75.6 in strong westerly winds. Sorenstam struggled en route to a 74. She needs to finish the week at 7-under 281, and a tough Trump International course might not be that accommodating. Wendy Doolan, birdied the 15th hole to tie with Webb for the lead, but hit into the water on number 17 for a double bogey finish. She is tied with Sorenstam heading into the weekend.Topics mentioned in this article
