Turnberry, Scotland:Tom Watson has teed off in the third round of the British Open, trying to keep up his quest to become the oldest major champion in golf history.
The 59-year-old Watson played in the final group at Turnberry with Steve Marino, a fellow American. The two were tied for the 36-hole lead at 5-under 135.
Going with a 5-iron, Watson knocked his first shot Saturday right down the middle off the fairway and set off to chants of "Good luck, Tom!"
Watson already is the oldest player ever to lead a round at a major. Now, he got his sights set on winning the claret jug for the sixth time. At least he doesn't have to worry about Tiger Woods, who failed to make a major cut for only the second time in his professional career.
