Chennai, New Delhi:Budding drivers will now find it easier to emulate their adrenalin rush, by training on a revolutionary new MRF racing car.
The car, which is manufactured by a UK-based motorsports firm, is powered by a 16-valve Ford Duratec 1.6-litre engine that generates 155 Bhp at 6,800 rpm.
Priced at Rs 15 lakh excluding the engines, it will soon be provided to up and coming young drivers to race.
"Technological upgrades in our racing was long overdue. That is why we thought of promoting the MRF Formula 1600 Formula car, ideal for Indian tracks," said K M Mammen, Chairman & MD, MRF.
But before that, the car, will be tested extensively this February. "The engines are being used around the world and have done extremely well. It's the best and lightest engine that we've got. The power-to-weight ratio is great, and for this kind of vehicle it's the ideal choice," said Arvind Mathew, Managing Director, Ford India.
To begin with, MRF will promote 10 such cars, which should be ready for next year's Indian National Racing Championship, organised by the Motorsports Association of India. The critical parts of the cars will be imported, and they will be assembled in Coimbatore.
